Why Jewellery plays a major role In Femi-nism’s Fight for Equality
Justo is announcing the launch of new products in celebration of International Woman’s Day 2021
Our collection focuses on elegance and femininity that would emphasize your independence and freedom.
We think it is specifically important to remember the history and how did women’s preferences and purchases of jewellery has changed the course of history. As women began buying their own clothes and jewelry rather than traditionally having it given to them by their husbands. If we travel back in time to Victorian England, a woman could not initiate divorce. As she would never even be allowed to do so. She could be beaten up and sexually assaulted, as well as denied control of her money and in many cases even denied in access to her own children. It had been completely legally allowed within marriage.
It took a lot of courage
The only women wild enough to rebel against that tendency and order were actresses and courtesans. They earned money and could purchase the jewellery of all kinds. The jewels of these women represented both femininity and independence as well as, financial freedom. They were the first ones to shape history. One of the most famous examples is Sophia Baddeley, an actress and courtesan, who was rumoured to own not one but four huge diamond necklaces, which she would demonstrate to her friends to gasps admiration.
Therefore, we can see that jewellery and women’s empowerment has gone hand in hand throughout history, as it has been a symbol of feminism long before the term was introduced.

Jewellery fashion follows the trend movements
The first major changes appeared around 100 years back when jewellery design shifted radically towards a bolder, brighter, and catcher silhouette. A great example could be Suzanne Belperron, who created comfortable but simultaneously great sculptural styles that powerful women wanted to wear in the 1930s. Later during the post-war, women had their own disposable income for the first time. The first jobs for women became positions in factories and offices that were traditionally reserved for only men. The jewellery that they bought for themselves was often less flouncy. It was a bigger statement and sometimes even political, they wore more of it because now it had meaning, and at times it became art.
Justo clients are women at the top of their positions in various fields. Such as law, art, and entertainment, and they aren’t trying to prove anything because they now have real power. They wear her jewellery because it makes them feel good, not for anyone else’s benefit. With the new collection, Justo wanted to celebrate it and embrace feminism, which is the right to be yourself, and fabulous jewellery expresses that for all to see.
